Tikila Reef es un sector de la isla que proporciona maravillas a Robert para deleitar su vida como buzo y como fotógrafo profesional. Los seres que constituyen su cotidiano, el amor por esta fauna tan singular es sin duda alguna perfectamente proyectada en los 62 registros fotográficos que comprende esta exposición. Sus imágenes motivan al espectador a adentrarse a este cosmos deslumbrantemente extraño, ajeno a nuestras miradas de superficie. Privilegio de ese grupo de hombres que con sus atavíos de neopreno navegan como poetas hermanos de la vida oceánica en el azul brillante de Cozumel.

Entrevista a Jesús Nezahual asistente a la exposición

- Mi nombre es Jesús Nezahual Soy instructor de buceo aquí en Cozumel desde hace 6 años

-¿Que te parece la exposición?

- En la parte técnica se me hace muy buena, el manejo que tiene Rock ( Robert Stansfield) del macro es increíble, pero aún más importante se me hace la parte de difundir la vida marina que existe en un lugar donde se está batallando para rescatar lo que quieren construir en general en la zona; el fondo marino cercano a la orilla, al arrecife más cercano la construcción de muelles y sobre construcción de hoteles y tal, se vea lo que hay ni siquiera a 200 metros de la orilla, la importancia de la fauna marina. Se me hace un acercamiento muy interesante para la gente que a lo mejor que no como nosotros que estamos en el agua todos los días, entonces el darse cuenta que así de pequeñitas y como grandes hay un montón de vida importante que hay que proteger.

-¿Haz visto especies nuevas o siempre son las mismas en Tikila Reff?

-Pues yo he visto siempre que son casi las mismas, porque yo no tengo la dedicación que tiene Rock, de estar ahí horas y horas seguro él ha encontrado cosas que no sabe como se llaman, para mí y para nosotros que estamos guiando o dando cursos ocasionalmente encontramos algo que nos sorprende.

¿Estos especímenes que están registrados en las fotografías de Robert Stansfield se podrían considerar representativas de la isla?

- Es una parte que no está tan vista estamos acostumbrados a la Mantarraya, Tiburón, Tortuga, pues es una parte que no se tiene la oportunidad de ver porque no tenemos esa cámara, definitivamente sí, es un pedacito, la exposición se llama Tikila Reff pues es un cacho que Rock conoce, en esa área a trabajado muchos años ahí. Pero no me cabe duda que en toda la orilla, en todo el largo de la costera de la isla hay cosas emocionantes, seguro que sí.

-¿Es entonces positivo que los Cozumeleños se acerquen?

- Claro que sí. un pequeño acercamiento, un despertar de curiosidad que le haga más ruido, quiero meterme al mar. Hay personas que siendo cozumeleño nunca a buceado sería un buen chance.

-¿Anteriormente haz visitado este museo?

-Sí, antes que lo cerraran, estuvo cerrado un buen rato, lo visite, pero ahora es la segunda vez que lo visito después que lo reabrieran. Sí, sin embargo creo que le falta publicidad y un poco más de cambiar programación. Como no estoy muy al tanto de lo que ponen muy a menudo, entonces creo que le falta un poquito de fuerza para que venga más gente.

-¿Algo más que desees agregar?

- Para mí es muy placentero platicar sobre esta exposición, creo que abarca muchos niveles porque aunque no estés conectado con el mar los colores y formas presentadas son una cosa impresionante, me parece que es para cualquier público al menos para los que están viviendo en la isla podrían o deberían disfrutar. Y para los turistas que vienen contribuye a ampliar el horizonte de lo que es Cozumel, no solo es el Club de Playa, el Hotel All inclusive, hay muchas otras cosas muy interesantes que se pueden disfrutar.

Tikila Reef is a sector of the island that provides wonders for Robert to delight his life as a diver and as a professional photographer. The beings that make up his daily life, the love for this unique fauna is undoubtedly perfectly projected in the 62 photographic records that comprise this exhibition. His images motivate the viewer to enter this dazzlingly strange cosmos, alien to our surface gazes. Interview with Jesús Nezahual attending the exhibition - My name is Jesús Nezahuat I have been a diving instructor here in Cozumel for 6 years.

-What do you think about the exhibition? - In the technical part I think it is very good, Rock's (Robert Stansfield) handling of the macro is incredible, but even more important to me is the part of spreading the marine life that exists in a place where they are struggling to rescue what they want to build in general in the area; the seabed near the shore, the nearest reef, the construction of docks and construction of hotels and such, you can see what there is not even 200 meters from the shore, the importance of marine life. I think it is a very interesting approach for people who maybe are not like us, who are in the water every day, to realize that there is a lot of important life that needs to be protected.

-Have you seen new species or are they always the same in Tikila Reff? -Well, I have always seen almost the same ones, because I don't have the dedication that Rock has, being there for hours and hours, I'm sure he has found things that he doesn't know what they are called, but for me and for us who are guiding or giving courses, occasionally we find something that surprises us. Could these specimens recorded in Robert Stansfiedl's photographs be considered representative of the island? - It is a part that is not so well seen, we are used to the manta ray, shark, turtle, because it is a part that we do not have the opportunity to see because we do not have that camera, definitely yes, it is a little piece, the exhibition is called Tikila Reff because it is a piece that Rock knows, in that area he has worked there for many years. But I have no doubt that all along the shore, all along the coastline of the island there are exciting things, I'm sure there are.

-So is it a good thing that Cozumeleños come closer? - Of course it is. A small approach, an awakening of curiosity that makes more noise, I want to get into the more. There are people who, being Cozumelenos, have never dived, it would be a good chance. -Have you visited this museum before? -Yes, before they closed it, it was closed for a while, I visited it, but now it is the second time I visit it after they reopened it. Yes, however, I think it lacks publicity and a little more change in programming. As I am not very aware of what they put on very often, so I think it lacks a little bit of strength to get more people to come.

-Anything else you would like to add? - For me it is very pleasant to talk about this exhibition, I think it covers many levels because even if you are not connected to the sea the colors and shapes presented are impressive, it seems to me that it is for any public, at least for those who are living on the island could or should enjoy it. And for the tourists that come it contributes to broaden the horizon of what Cozumel is, it is not only the Beach Club, the All Inclusive Hotel, there are many other very interesting things that can be enjoyed.
