El 4 de febrero de 2022 se inauguró en el museo de la isla de Cozumel las exposiciones de arte fotográfico "Colibríes criaturas fantásticas" y "Cozumel Above the Sea" en ellas cada imagen irradia extraordinaria belleza que solamente la naturaleza lo puede hacer de manera magnánima. Sus criaturas con su cuerpos de maravillosa conformación, sus colores brillantes y agradables, texturas sutiles, ambientes de vida muy bien capturados por los ejecutantes de esta disciplina creativa.

-Soy fotógrafo desde que era un niño, aunque la fotografía siguió siendo sólo una afición mientras disfrutaba de una carrera como ingeniero y empresario. Cuando vendí mi negocio en 2010 y me jubilé pude dedicar mucho más tiempo a actividades que me interesaban, como la fotografía, los viajes, el triatlón, el aprendizaje de idiomas y la composición musical. La hermosa isla de Cozumel, con su gente atractiva y su fabulosa flora y fauna, despertó un mayor interés por la fotografía de la naturaleza y he disfrutado mucho trabajando con Tati Biermas y Tania Nacif para producir nuestro libro "Cozumel Above The Sea" y seguir fotografiando aquí tan a menudo como puedo.

- Las fotografías de la naturaleza de la isla que usted exhibe en esta exposición cree que además de exhibir su belleza, también contribuye a aumentar la conciencia de la gente para mantenerla y protegerla adecuadamente?
-Sí, uno de los objetivos de nuestro proyecto de libro era concienciar a la gente de la belleza única de la isla. No es raro que la gente de todo el mundo dé por sentadas las cosas que le rodean, aunque esas cosas sean especiales y únicas. La fotografía puede aumentar la conciencia de la gente sobre el mundo natural que les rodea y puede contribuir a que se den cuenta de que los tesoros medioambientales deben ser protegidos activamente.
- ¿Qué le pareció la exposición de sus obras fotográficas en esta ocasión en el museo y cree que la museografía estuvo bien realizada?
-Sako y el personal del Museo de la Isla de Cozumel hicieron un excelente trabajo al exponer nuestros trabajos, disponiendo los temas de forma muy interesante y colocándolos en las paredes de forma muy efectiva. Estoy muy agradecido a Sako por la oportunidad de exponer estas obras.
- ¿Qué está haciendo actualmente en el campo de la fotografía?
-Actualmente estoy haciendo mucha fotografía en Italia, con la esperanza de producir algún día un libro de fotografías que muestren ese increíble país. Al mismo tiempo, sigo tomando fotos aquí en Cozumel y nunca me canso del placer que me da visitar y fotografiar los lugares especiales de aquí.
- ¿Algo más que quieras decir a los lectores de Art News Cozumel?
-Si, aún no han visto nuestra exposición físicamente en el museo, espero que tengan la oportunidad de hacerlo y que disfruten viendo nuestra interpretación de "Cozumel sobre el mar".

- ¿Qué le motivó a acercarse a la fotografía de naturaleza y cuánto tiempo lleva haciéndolo?
-Estudié fotografía en Alemania, justo después del colegio.
Y eso es todo lo que he querido hacer (y he hecho para vivir) en mi vida: fotografiar.
Como apasionada de la naturaleza, quiero crear conciencia para proteger la belleza de nuestro planeta a través de mis fotos, mostrando también lo delicado que es.
-¿Las fotografías de la naturaleza de la isla que usted expone en esta exposición cree que además de exhibir su belleza, también contribuye a aumentar la conciencia de la gente para mantenerla y protegerla adecuadamente?
-Sí... ¡eso espero!

-Qué le pareció exponer sus obras fotográficas en esta ocasión en el museo de la isla de Cozumel y cree que la museografía estuvo bien realizada?
-Quiero dar las gracias al museo y a Sako por darnos la oportunidad de mostrar nuestro trabajo. La forma en que expuso todas las fotografías y nuestro libro: "Cozumel sobre el mar" es fantástica. Estoy muy agradecida y no podría haber pedido más. Sólo espero que podamos vender muchos libros, para que la gente disfrute de nuestras fotografías en su casa, en su mesa de centro, para nosotros.
-En este momento estoy trabajando en una serie de fotografías artísticas de árboles, además de mi trabajo como fotógrafo de bienes raíces, retratos y bodas y fotógrafo de acción.

-¿Qué le motivó el acercarse a realizar el arte fotográfico de la naturaleza y cuánto tiempo lleva realizándolo?
-Yo crecí en Ciudad, al venirme a vivir a Cozumel fue que empecé a estar en contacto con la naturaleza de forma permanente, empecé retratando la vida marina y de ahí me fui adentrando más a la fotografía de naturaleza.

-¿Las fotografías de la naturaleza de la isla que usted expone en esta exposición cree que además de exhibir su belleza también contribuye a acrecentar la conciencia de las personas para mantenerla y protegerla adecuadamente?.
-Realmente espero que así sea, pero para mucha gente puede ser algo tan externo a ellos que no vean ni la necesidad ni la forma de cuidarlos.

- ¿Qué le pareció el exhibir sus obras fotográficas en esta ocasión en el museo y cree usted que fue bien realizada la museografía?
-Creo que Sako hizo una maravilla de trabajo museográfico, me encantó cómo quedó montada la exposición.

- ¿Actualmente que está usted realizando en fotografía?
-Estoy fascinada con la fotografía macro y me está gustando mucho crear colores y texturas de una forma un poco abstracta y suave.

-¿Qué le motivo el acercarse a realizar el arte fotográfico de la naturaleza?
-Lo que me motivo a fotografiar animales fue mostrar al público en general lo hermoso y subestimados que son muchas especies. Me motivo el dar a conocer para que la gente sea más gentil con las especies. que dejen de usar insecticidas y que en general cuiden más lo que los rodea

Cozumel Island Museum
On February 4, 2022 the island's museum Cozumel inaugurated the photographic art exhibitions "Hummingbirds Fantastic Creatures" and "Cozumel Above the Sea" in which each image radiates extraordinary beauty that only nature can do so magnanimously. Its creatures with their wonderfully shaped bodies, their bright and pleasing colors, subtle textures, living environments very well captured by the performers of this creative discipline.
To the photographers a well-deserved thanks and congratulations.
Below are the interviews Art News Cozumel conducted with the participating photographers.
Paul Von Der Heyden
- What motivated you to approach nature photography and how long have you been doing it?
-I have been a photographer since I was a young boy, although photography remained only a hobby while I enjoyed a career as an engineer and entrepreneur. When I sold my business in 2010 and retired I was able to spend much more time doing activities that interested me, including photography, travel, triathlon, language learning, and music composition. The beautiful island of Cozumel with its engaging people and fabulous flora and fauna sparked a greater interest in nature photography and I have enjoyed greatly working with Tati Biermas and Tania Nacif to produce our book “Cozumel Above The Sea” and to continue to photograph here as often as I can.
- The photographs of the nature of the island that you exhibit in this exhibition believe that in addition to exhibiting its beauty, it also contributes to increasing people's awareness to maintain and protect it properly.
-Yes, one of the goals of our book project was to make people aware of the unique beauty of the island. It is not uncommon for people everywhere to take for granted the things around them, even though those things may be special and unique. Photography can increase people’s awareness of the natural world that surrounds them and can contribute to their realization that environmental treasures must be actively protected.
- What did you think of exhibiting your photographic works on this occasion in the museum and do you think the museography was well carried out?
Sako and the staff of the Museum of the Island of Cozumel did an excellent job displaying our work, arranging the subjects in a very interesting way and positioning them on the walls in a very effective pattern. I’m very grateful to Sako for the opportunity to have these works displayed.
- What are you currently doing in photography?
I am currently doing a lot of photography in Italy, hoping to someday produce a book of photographs that showcase that amazing country. At the same time, I am continuing to take pictures here in Cozumel and never tire of the pleasure it gives visiting and photographing the special places here.
- Anything else you want to say to the readers of Art News Cozumel?
-Yes, you have not yet seen our exhibition physically at the museum, I hope you have the opportunity to do so and that you enjoy seeing our interpretation of "Cozumel over the sea".
Tatjana Reichgruber Biermas
- What motivated you to approach nature photography and how long have you been doing it?
I studied photography in Germany, right after school.
And that´s all I ever wanted to do (and did for living) in my life: photographing.
As a passionate nature lover I want to create an awareness to protect the beauty of our planet thru my pictures - also showing how delicate it is.
-The photographs of the nature of the island that you exhibit in this exhibition believe that in addition to exhibiting its beauty, it also contributes to increasing people's awareness to maintain and protect it properly.
Yes.. thats my hope!
-What did you think of exhibiting your photographic works on this occasion in the museum and do you think the museography was well carried out?
I want to thank the museum and Sako for giving us the opportunity to show our work. The way she displayed all photographs and our book: "Cozumel Above the Sea" is fantastic. I´m very thankful and couldn´t have asked for more.I just hope we can sell a lot of books, so that people can enjoy our photographs at home, on their coffee table, for us.
-¿What are you currently doing in photography?
At this moment I´m working on a series of artsy tree photographs - beside my job as photographer for real estate, portraits & weddings and action photographer.

-What motivated you to approach the photographic art of nature and how long have you been doing it?
-I grew up in Ciudad, when I came to live in Cozumel I began to be in permanent contact with nature, I started portraying marine life and from there I started to get more into nature photography.
-Do you think that the photographs of the island's nature that you are showing in this exhibition, besides exhibiting its beauty, also contribute to raise people's awareness to maintain and protect it properly?
-I really hope so, but for many people it may be something so external to them that they see neither the need nor the way to take care of them.
- What did you think about exhibiting your photographic works on this occasion at the museum and do you think the museography was well done?
-I think Sako did a marvelous job with the museography, I loved the way the exhibition was set up.
- What are you currently doing in photography?
-I am fascinated with macro photography and I am enjoying creating colors and textures in a soft abstract way.
- Anything else you would like to tell the readers of Art News Cozumel?
-That they should visit the museum as there are several worthwhile exhibits. Thank you.
Angélica Contreras
-What motivated you to approach the art of nature photography?
-What motivated me to photograph animals was to show the general public how beautiful and underestimated many species are. I was motivated to make people more aware so that they would be gentler with the species, to stop using insecticides and in general to take more care of what surrounds them.
-Exhibiting the work at the museum is the culmination of three years that I have been immersed in wildlife photography. I feel fulfilled. Sako's museography work is impeccable,
allá en Laguna San Ignacio,
y cada criatura que se mueve
en los muslos sombreados del agua.
Y creó al delfín y al lobo marino,
a la garza azul y a la tortuga verde,
al pelícano blanco, al águila real
y al cormorán de doble cresta.
Y Dios dijo a las ballenas:
«Fructificad y multiplicaos
en actos de amor que sean
visibles desde la superficie
»sólo por una burbuja,
por una aleta ladeada,
asida la hembra debajo
por el largo pene prensil;
»que no hay mayor esplendor del gris
que cuando la luz lo platea.
Su respiración profunda
es una exhalación».
Y Dios vio que era bueno
que las ballenas se amaran
y jugaran con sus crías
en la laguna mágica.
Y Dios dijo:
«Siete ballenas juntas
hacen una procesión.
Cien hacen un amanecer».
Y las ballenas salieron
a atisbar a Dios entre
las estrías danzantes de las aguas.
Y Dios fue visto por el ojo de una ballena.
Y las ballenas llenaron
los mares de la tierra.
Y fue la tarde y la mañana
del quinto día.
