Marlise Witschi
Cozumel Island Museum.

"I paint in short and very intense sessions, until inspiration runs out. Then I walk away and come back later, to see “what came out”. Then I paint the next phase, etc. I become completely immersed in the process of painting and lose all track of time"

Marlise Witschi

During the opening night

Opening night with a pleased audience

The interview granted by Marlise Witschi exclusively for Art News Cozumel:
- ¿What did you think of the response of the audience attending your inauguration?
-The opening reception was very well attended and people were interested and asking questions. Many expressed how much they loved the paintings. It was a great experience to receive such a positive response !
-Could you share with us the experience of the process of this work that you currently exhibit in the museum?
-The large paintings, I was painting in series of three (because i didnt have more space in my studio). This is why they have similar colors. I paint in brief and very intense sessions of about an hour or so, until the inspiration feels exhausted. Then i walk away and come back later, to see 'what came out'. Then i paint the next phase, etc. I am completely immersed in the process of painting and lose all sense of time.
-¿What do you think of the museography that Sako made with your work?
-I love her collage creation, where she used a print as background, with photos of my gallery on it . I didn't expect to receive a gift!
- ¿Something else you want to add?
-I feel really positive with the whole experience of collaborating with Sako, of creating and then transforming the show several times. I want to thank again you, sako and the whole team for their great help, including the transportation which was quite complicated!

Marlise loves to express what is beyond thoughts and words through the 'channel' that we all are.

On the path  of Marlise Witschi

Thus, his paintings are expressions of this freedom and spontaneity that are created by stepping out of the way and letting it happen, so this process of listening and following different expressions of the Indescribable emerges.

The artist wants to remind the viewer that they are equally an artist in the sense that they are free to see and interpret whatever they want to see in any painting at any time, thus the Act of Creation takes place in both the viewer and the painter - there is no difference; we all create our own world according to the way we perceive it is this freedom and empowerment that Marlise loves to share with her paintings.

Symbiosis

As the ultimate Vision, Marlise would love for the viewer to have an experience of their own light, joy and grandeur of the infinite Consciousness that we are.

 ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Marlisa loves to express what’s beyond thoughts and words through the ‘channel’, the medium, that we all are.

Thus, her paintings are expressions of this freedom and spontaneity, which are created by ‘stepping out of the way’ and letting ‘it’ come through. Through this intuitive process of listening and following, different expressions of the ‘unspeakable’ come into existence.

Interpretations of the sensitive Marlise Abstract Universe

Also, Marlisa wants to remind the viewer to realize that they are equally an Artist, in that they are free to see and interpret whatever they want to see, in any painting, at any moment. Thus, the act of creation takes place as much in the viewer as in the painter – there is no difference. In this sense, we all create our own world by the way we perceive it. It is this freedom and empowerment which Marlisa loves to share with her paintings.

As an ultimate vision, Marlisa would love for the viewer to have an experience of their own light, joy and greatness – the infinite consciousness that we are.

MARLISE WITSCHI     ABSTRACT PAINTING

Marlise was born in Switzerland with a father who was a painter and sculptor. When she was a child she painted with her father and that created a bond between them. He let her try all kinds of paints and crayons, which he then used with his students. He instructed her in the basic techniques of painting and was her most severe critic.

As an adult, she moved to Canada and became a psychologist, which was her main work for over three decades. In 2007 she started taking Painting Courses throughout the years, participated in Painting Retreats and an artist’s Residency. Painting then became her main focus.

She eventually became an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artist and the North Okanagan Chapter of the FCA. She participated in their shows where she sold her paintings. Marlise has also shown her work in Switzerland and different locations in the Baja and Cozumel. She has now a private Galery which she is happy to show you by appointment.

In 2021, Marlise moved permanently to Mexico, Baja California, and now she is a resident of Cozumel.

Her modalities are Acrylic paint and Mixed-media techniques.

Some of her paintings reveal figurative aspects within the Abstraction. None of the faces or figures are planned; they all appear and are just revealed more clearly as they emerge, with added details.
