Muy buena producciòn fotogràfica que se esta exhibiendo en el museo de la Isla de Cozumel, nos referimos "Arte en lo Profundo" que es el resultado de un grupo de personas que aman la fauna marina de la isla, especialmente los tiburones y las rayas. Cozumel Ocean Research es la organizaciòn al cual pertenecen estos extraordinarios voluntarios que dan parte de su corazòn y tiempo desinteresadamente.

En la noche inaugural se evidencio notablemente la asistencia de parte de la gran comunidad de buzos y personas que gustan de esta forma de vida. Consideramos que fue una excelente forma de trabajar con la lente fotogràfica submarina y sobre todo el discurso de difundir visualmente el tomar consciencia para mantener la vida de nuestros hermanos, que al igual que nosotros necesitamos que siga vigente el mutuo respeto de la libertad, a desarrollarnos en un ambiente libre de agresiones en nuestro entorno, mantener el control, el cuidado de lo que la manifestaciòn de la naturaleza nos otorgo en la gran diversidad de especies. Muchas gracias y felicidades a todo el equipo de "Cozumel Ocean Research" por la bella idea de ir al museo de la isla de Cozumel y compartir su noble trabajo.

La entrevista

Mi nombre es Ernesto la organizaciòn Cozumel el principal objetivo es la conservaciòn de los ecosistemas marinos específicamente de los tiburones y las rayas, fue idea de una de nuestras colaboradoras Laura que tuvo la idea justamente porque tenemos muchos voluntarios que son fotògrafos subacuáticos.y tuvo la idea de mostrar parte del trabajo y tambièn con la intensiòn de hacer una venta de las imàgenes como una acciòn para donar fondos para un proyecto que tenemos justamente para monitoreo de tiburones y rayas .

¿Cual es el futuro que ves de está situación?

-bueno la isla está realmente sufriendo , bueno los ecosistemas marinos están sufriendo un deterioro en general pero claramente la organización y los voluntarios que trabajamos en ella hemos visto ò vemos continuamente durante años está degradaciòn continua.

La economìa de la isla se basa en el turismo y de alguna manera no puedes restringir lo que está generando economìa en la isla, pero creo que se puede hacer un manejo mucho màs sustentable y mucho màs amigable con el recurso porque si al final si esto se degrada la economìa de la isla va a degradarse tambièn junto con el mismo ambiente. entonces el futuro es complejo porque el cambio climático es a lo mejor es mucho màs grande en tamaño como para poder acciones y hacer cambios, uno personalmente y es algo que está degradando, pero definitivamente nuestras acciones pueden influir, nuestros hábitos de consumo, nuestros hábitos alimenticios, todo eso puede ayudar a por lo menos reducir la degradaciòn de los ecosistemas a nivel local. Por ejemplo el uso adecuado del agua, el reducir el consumo de plásticos o materiales de un solo uso, el reducir la cantidad de pescado que se consume asegurarte de donde proviene el pescado que estás consumiendo evitar consumir especies en veda. Este tipo de acciones, son acciones simples que podemos tener en la cotidianidad y esto podría realmente ayudar a la conservación del ecosistema.

-Vi un documental que decía que hay muchas especies ya no se acercan a las playas, están muy lejos, en lo profundo, muy lejos de las playas, que de alguna manera ellos mismos se están protegiendo.de está devastación.

-es muy probable que las especies están al final un proceso de adaptaciòn a los cambios que está sufriendo el ambiente en general y definitivamente la sobrepoblación o el sobreuso de un recurso como puede ser los arrecifes de coral en cozumel pues definitivamente estàn alegando muchas de las especies que antes eran comunes en la zona y es algo que estamos viendo con uno de los muestreos o estudios que estamos haciendo al poner estas cámaras con carnada sin la presencia de buzos y en horario donde los buzos no están en los sitios arrecifales se llegan a ver especies de tiburón que normalmente no ves esto es un claro indicador que ellos están evitando la presencia de los buzos para su subsistencia.

¿Crees que los habitantes de la isla no los buzos sino los residentes sean apáticos a estas medidas?

- Yo creo que son usos y costumbres , yo creo que los usos y costumbres están muy arraigados en la familia y simplemente a veces el confort o el hecho de hacer un cambio siempre es difícil en la gente. Yo creo que la comunidad de la isla poco a poco empieza hacer consciente pero yo creo que son muchos los programas, la educaciòn a nivel local para realmente fomentar los cambios a nivel ambiental, la conservaciòn por ejemplo puede haber una ley se hizo no mucho sobre los plásticos de un solo uso, peo sino restringen a las tiendas que venden botellas de plástico pues esto va a continuar entonces tiene que hacer una labor conjunta entre gobierno no nadamas una ley escrita sino acciones coordinadas con los empresarios para hacer cambios reales. educaciòn, educaciòn conjunta. no solamente hacer leyes y prohibir, sino realmente hacer leyes a ciudadanos explicar porque y educar hacer cambios, dar alternativas. Si tu vas al super y no tienes bolsas ahì disponibles para llevar tus compras pues bueno vas agarrar la de plàstico.

Entonces hay que crear alternativas a las leyes a los cambios que estamos haciendo.

-¿Algo más que quieras decir?

-pues solo que , muchas veces uno puede tener una actitud pesimista sobre el futuro, sobre cómo, qué puedo hacer, si realmente vale la pena, mi acciòn mi cambio, yo puedo decir que sì definitivamente, el hacer cambios a nivel personal primer paso para tener un cabio local y global, asì que los cambios nunca deben de esperar y nunca debemos en dudar en hacerlos sobre todo en un ambiente sano no vamos a tener donde vivir cohabitar sanamente.

What do you see as the future of this situation? -Well the island is really suffering, well the marine ecosystems are suffering a deterioration in general but clearly the organization and the volunteers that work on it have seen or we see continuously for years this continuous degradation. The economy of the island is based on tourism and in some way you cannot restrict what is generating economy on the island, but I think that you can make a much more sustainable management and much more friendly with the resource because if in the end if this is degraded the economy of the island will also degrade along with the same environment. So the future is complex because climate change is perhaps much larger in size to be able to take action and make changes, one personally and it is something that is degrading, but definitely our actions can influence, our consumption habits, our eating habits, all that can help to at least reduce the degradation of ecosystems at the local level. For example, the proper use of water, reducing the consumption of plastics or single-use materials, reducing the amount of fish consumed, making sure where the fish you are consuming comes from, avoiding the consumption of species in closure. Do you think that the inhabitants of the island, not the divers but the residents, are apathetic to these measures? - I think they are habits and customs, I think that the habits and customs are deeply rooted in the family and simply sometimes the comfort or the fact of making a change is always difficult for people. I believe that the community of the island little by little is starting to become conscious but I believe that there are many programs, education at the local level to really encourage changes at the environmental level, conservation for example there may be a law that was made not long ago about single-use plastics, but if they do not restrict the stores that sell plastic bottles, this will continue, then there has to be a joint effort between the government, not just a written law but coordinated actions with the businessmen to make real changes. education, joint education. not only make laws and prohibit, but really make laws to citizens explain why and educate, make changes, give alternatives.
