Marlise Witschi Gallery
on the island of San Miguel de Cozumel.

"I feel I am painting the unspeakable, because abstract art is beyond thought and language. It is free. It's like a direct transmission from the artist to the viewer, of a transpersonal message."
 Marlise Witschi

Marlise Witschi and her gallery

Like many painters who have decided to install their own gallery in their homes and share their works with the public interested in admiring and purchasing them, Marlise Witschi has done it with a lot of motivation and passion, it is part of her personality; kind, simple and with a lot of empathy towards others. Maybe because she knows very well that art is life, she values it and shares it.
Besides showing talent to transmit her feelings in color using the abstract and expressionist, she is the daughter of a renowned Swiss artist Werner Witschi* who obviously was her great influence to integrate into the artistic habitat. As a Mexican saying goes "Hija de tigre pintita".
Therefore it is interesting to contact Marlise and visit her gallery, she will make you live interesting and pleasant moments.
Congratulations to the painter and thanks for being part of the progress of art in the island of San Miguel de Cozumel, by installing her gallery in this region of Quintana Roo.

sharing your experience

-¿Will you also have workshop activities?

Marlise's talent and joy

-¿Could you share with us your story of how you were born as a painter? ¿What is your resume in art?

-I am the youngest of four girls from an artist father. As I loved to paint as a little girl already, he gave me lots of paints and crayons and later on also instructions. Every Sunday we went. To. Visit Art Galleries in the city of Bern, Switzerland. I got to see lots of art and architecture.
As I started my professional Life as a psychologist, my art took a break, until i picked it up again in 2014. I took Many workshops and Artist  Retreats in Canada and the US, and painting became very important In my life again. I also had a Near Death Experience and experienced our true Nature as immortal peace, love and freedom. And this is my Message to the world: you, we, are pure consciousness, which is free!

- ¿How would you define your paintings?

-My paintings are influenced by abstract expressionists like Frankenthal and Joan Mitchell, as well as Van Gogh and Klimt. I am painting in Acrylics, scratching into The many layers, so you can see what's hidden underneath. I feel I am painting the Unspeakable, because abstract art is beyond thoughts and language. It is free. It is like a direct transmission from the artist to the viewer, of a transpersonal message.

attractive formats to appreciate the work

-¿How long have you been living in Cozumel and how well have you integrated into the island's community of artists? What do you think of the community of artists? That is, what is your opinion of the community of artists? And the public that attends the exhibitions that take place within Cozumel?

- I have been visiting Cozumel for 7 years in winter and  last year I moved here full time. I am not really aware of a community of artists. It feels more like mostly individual artists doing their thing. I am aware of one group of artists, but I find it hard to access them. I visit their shows and introduce myself, but I feel no interest from them. And I do think that artists often are loners, individualistic, living in their own world, trying to express it. I don't know any artists that are very community oriented....anmaybe  that's just me thinking that, Ha ha.

- ¿What did you appreciate about the atmosphere that was generated on the opening day of your gallery and of course in front of your work?

- I appreciate all the people who made the effort to come visit my Gallery. Many people are really interested, and fascinated with all the different things they discover when looking at a painting. I had lots of fun chatting with them and hosting them.
