La exposición "La Frontera de la Realidad" protagonizada por los creadores Laura Cochran y David Cochran plantea un fascinante diálogo directo entre dos mundos estéticos la fotografía abstracta y geométrica y el realismo minuciosamente detallado.
A través de un recorrido meticulosamente curado, la exhibición no solo expone las virtudes técnicas individuales de ambos artistas, sino que explora la sutil frontera donde el plano material y la interpretación sensible se entrelazan. El espectador se encuentra ante un juego de espejos donde la rigidez geométrica se humaniza y el objeto cotidiano se transforma en un universo absoluto.
Laura Cochran se vale de una vibrancia extrema, utilizando formas interesantes y colores vibrantes como azules profundos, rojos encendidos, verdes megnéticos y amarillos limpios. David Cochran expone una serie de dibujos ejecutados con lápices de colores que redefinen las posibilidades del medio.
El uso del lápiz de color es una técnica implacable que exige una paciencia milimétrica y una constante superposición de capas para lograr niveles extraordinarios de saturación un dominio superlativo en el tratamiento del volumen y los brillos , por ejemplo el pimiento o el pétalo dejan de ser mera naturaleza muerta para convertirse en el cosmos entero de la obra.
El núcleo conceptual de "La Frontera de la Realidad" radica en cómo ambos creadores intercambian roles perceptivos. Mientras Laura utiliza una herramienta de captura real (la cámara) para construir una imagen abstracta, David utiliza herramientas de dibujo tradicionales para aproximarse a una realidad casi fotográfica.
Esta muestra celebra un impecable acto creativo y consolida un puente entre disciplinas.

A continuación la entrevista que concedió en exclusiva para art News Cozumel:
-¿Cómo surgió la idea de exponer su obra en el museo de la isla?
-Nuestra exposición se titula «La Frontera de la Realidad» y combina fotografías que parecen dibujos con dibujos que parecen fotografías. Nuestra última exposición conjunta fue antes de la pandemia, así que nos alegró tener la oportunidad de volver a exponer arte juntos. Con la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) en el centro de la atención mediática, nos pareció oportuno proponer una exposición que invitara al espectador a cuestionar lo que ve. Nos preocupa el papel de la IA en prácticamente todos los aspectos de nuestras vidas, incluido el futuro del arte. Por eso, era importante para nosotros ofrecer arte que no utilizara IA generativa e invitar al espectador a analizar con mayor profundidad lo que percibe.
-¿Podrían compartir alguna anécdota o experiencia que hayan tenido durante el proceso de creación de su obra expuesta? ¿Algo que no hayan mencionado públicamente antes?
-Supimos que el tema era efectivo cuando, antes de la inauguración, uno de los fotógrafos del museo confundió uno de los dibujos de David con una fotografía de Laura.
.- ¿Cómo fue la acogida del público en la noche de la inauguración? ¿Qué comentarios recibieron? -Nos sentimos honrados de que nuestro trabajo fuera aceptado por el museo y complacidos por su excelente presentación. ¡Nos encantó la cantidad de asistentes a la recepción! El museo organizó la recepción de manera excelente y recibimos muchos comentarios positivos y realizamos algunas ventas, lo cual fue muy gratificante. Parece que la gente se divirtió mucho intentando adivinar si una pieza era un dibujo o una fotografía antes de revisar la etiqueta. Hubo muchas preguntas sobre cómo se crearon ambos tipos de obras. - ¿Qué opinan del desempeño curatorial y museográfico de la museógrafa Sako? -Sako tiene un excelente ojo para exhibir arte y maneja cada detalle con fluidez. Fue una buena guía durante todo el proceso, que era nuevo para nosotros. Agradecemos su esfuerzo por equilibrar las piezas de manera armoniosa. -¿Cuáles son sus próximos proyectos en el ámbito artístico? -Esperamos realizar más exposiciones en el futuro y seguir explorando diferentes temas.
The Border of Reality Cozumel Island Museum (English version) We knew the theme was effective when, before the opening, one of the museum photographers mistook one of David's drawings for a photograph by Laura. Laura Cochran The exhibition "The Border of Reality," featuring artists Laura Cochran and David Cochran, presents a fascinating direct dialogue between two aesthetic worlds: abstract and geometric photography and meticulously detailed realism. Through a meticulously curated exhibition, the show not only showcases the individual technical prowess of both artists but also explores the subtle boundary where the material plane and sensitive interpretation intertwine. The viewer encounters a hall of mirrors where geometric rigidity is humanized and the everyday object is transformed into an absolute universe. Laura Cochran employs an extreme vibrancy, using intriguing forms and vibrant colors such as deep blues, fiery reds, magnetic greens, and clean yellows. David Cochran presents a series of colored pencil drawings that redefine the medium's possibilities. The use of colored pencils is a demanding technique that requires meticulous patience and constant layering to achieve extraordinary levels of saturation and a superlative mastery of volume and light. For example, a pepper or a petal ceases to be mere still life and becomes the entire cosmos of the work. The conceptual core of "The Border of Reality" lies in how the two artists exchange perceptual roles. While Laura uses a real-world capture tool (the camera) to construct an abstract image, David uses traditional drawing tools to approach an almost photographic reality. This exhibition celebrates an impeccable creative act and consolidates a bridge between disciplines.

-How did the idea of exhibiting your work at the island's museum come about?
-Our exhibition is titled "The Frontier of Reality" and combines photographs that look like drawings with drawings that look like photographs. Our last joint exhibition was before the pandemic, so we were happy to have the opportunity to exhibit art together again. With Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the center of media attention, it seemed appropriate to propose an exhibition that invites the viewer to question what they see. We are concerned about the role of AI in practically every aspect of our lives, including the future of art. Therefore, it was important for us to offer art that did not use generative AI and to invite the viewer to analyze what they perceive more deeply.
-Could you share any anecdotes or experiences you had during the creative process behind your exhibited work? Anything you haven't mentioned publicly before?
-We knew the theme was effective when, before the opening, one of the museum photographers mistook one of David's drawings for a photograph of Laura.
-How was the public's reception on opening night? What feedback did you receive?
-We were honored that our work was accepted by the museum and pleased with its excellent presentation. We loved the number of attendees at the reception! The museum organized the reception superbly, and we received a lot of positive feedback and made some sales, which was very gratifying. It seemed that people had a lot of fun trying to guess whether a piece was a drawing or a photograph before checking the label. There were many questions about how both types of works were created.
-What do you think of the curatorial and museographic work of the museographer Sako?
-Sako has an excellent eye for exhibiting art and handles every detail with ease. She was a good guide throughout the entire process, which was new to us. We appreciate your effort in balancing the pieces harmoniously.
-What are your upcoming projects in the art world?
-We hope to hold more exhibitions in the future and continue exploring different themes.
