(English version)

The Grace Gallery

La entrevista

 —¿Tu nombre?
— ¡Me llamo Alicia Grace Marco!

Me encantaría.

Necesitamos llegar a YouTube.

y multidisciplinario.

En todo espacio la creatividad

The Grace Gallery Puerto Morelos Quintana Roo "I visited Puerto Morelos for the first time about a year and a half ago, and I fell in love with the town, its people, and its culture. I realized there wasn't a single gallery in town. So, having run a gallery in New York for eight years, I decided I wanted to bring it here and create an artistic community in Puerto Morelos." Alysha Grace Marko
Puerto Morelos boasts a new and cherished meeting place for art and culture: The Grace Gallery, a space conceived with exquisite aesthetics to enrich the creative life, sensitivity, and social fabric of this beautiful Caribbean region. Driven by a profoundly alternative and avant-garde vision, this project stands out as a haven free from conventionalism, where artistic experimentation and community dialogue find fertile ground to flourish. Backed by the solid and extensive experience of its owner, who understands the art world through her dual role as a gallery owner and her vocation as an artist, this initiative is born with the maturity and strength necessary to take deep root and endure over time. To truly grasp the scope and inner essence of this new space, there's nothing better than letting her speak for herself: let her share the details, motivations, and vision of this inspiring endeavor. We wish her continued success on this new cultural path and express our gratitude for opening the doors of this beautiful space to the Quintana Roo art community and the international scene.

The Interview —Your name? —My name is Alysha Grace Marko !
—Okay. —I'm originally from New Jersey, but I lived in New York for about 20 years.
—Are you an artist? —Yes, I'm an artist, uh... a painter, mainly in oils. Sometimes I work with wood and other times with mixed media. I also write poetry, but I mostly paint in oils on canvas.
—Why did you open the gallery? Why did you decide to open it? —I came... I visited Puerto Morelos for the first time about a year and a half ago, and I fell in love with the town, its people, and its culture. I realized there wasn't a single gallery in town. So, I've had a gallery in New York for eight years, and I decided I wanted to bring it here and create an artistic community in Puerto Morelos. And yes, I was lucky enough to find the space, and in about six months it was under construction.
– How has the response been from the people of Puerto Morelos, from the artists? –Well, to begin with, I feel like a celebrity in town because everyone says to me, "Oh, you're the gallery owner!" because there isn't another gallery in town besides mine. It's kind of strange, because in New York there are galleries on every corner, sometimes like 80 galleries on a single block, on different floors. Here everything is completely new, and it feels good and exciting to be a pioneer in a smaller market, instead of being a lesser-known artist in a big city like New York.
– How do you see the artists here? How do you perceive the artists from Puerto Morelos or those who exhibit in the gallery? – I feel very fortunate to work with these artists, and I'm amazed that there's so much talent in all artistic disciplines here. It's wonderful to finally have a space where they can show their work in different formats. I want to create a cultural center, a space to exhibit diverse things. We met during the film festival we organized, and before that, there was nothing like it in the city. I'm so happy to be able to be the driving force behind this project. It's incredible to work with the artists, especially here. The truth is, I have to learn Spanish; that's the only obstacle right now. I take classes every day, but everything else is wonderful. I love the artists here.
—What other activities has the gallery organized besides painting and film? —We've organized some musical events, last season with local musicians. We also want to open a theater in the back for live theater productions during the high season, and also dance performances with international styles. I want there to be different kinds of events and art: fine art shows, our theater, film, painting, and what else? Maybe a restaurant. I think we could open a restaurant in a month. Yes, it's practically confirmed, but it's going to be exciting.
—What other projects have come up for you, what other projects do you have in mind? —Well, I'm quite busy with everything we've been working on for months, and now I also want to focus on painting. So I want to go back to the studio, which is near the gallery, and paint, find inspiration in the land, and also go to different landscapes like the cenotes and different parts of Mexico and paint different series about them. But as for the projects for the gallery, I mean the theater, the theater would be a big project. We have to decide which shows to present and then start looking for local talent, and then have the schedule for the 2026-2027 season. It's quite a big project. I want to call it Grace Garden. It will be like the garden, the back area for events. And also private dinners, talks with artists, etc. Actually, new ideas come up every day, and the space is growing; there's room for so many things.
—What does it take to exhibit here? —What does an artist need to exhibit here? We like to connect with artists in person. If it's a casual thing, it's always nice to feel the artist's energy and connect with them as a person. Oh, and I also ask them to send me some images. I'd like to see examples of their work on the Grace Gallery website for the application, a biography, their artwork, and their resume, just to see it in the email. I like being able to sit down with them and have them show me their work when they come to the gallery.
—Anything else you'd like to tell us? —If there's anything else you'd like to share, please be sure to do so. —Hmm, I'm wondering if I forgot something about what we're trying to do. No, it's just that I really feel very fortunate. I feel fortunate to be here and to be able to live my creative dreams here, and to inspire other people who live here to do the same. The community is amazing, and I feel very grateful.

—Would you be open to exchanging artists with other municipalities like Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and thus carry out a cultural exchange with art galleries, museums, and communities in the area? – Yes! Of course! I would love to. I think collaboration is a wonderful thing. And, you know, two people can achieve more than one. And I think if you have the right mindset, the right vision, you're connected and aligned with your vision, then it's wonderful to collaborate.
– Could you please give us your contact information? – We have Instagram. I also have a WhatsApp number to connect, but I think we post almost everything on Instagram and Facebook. And what else? We need to get on YouTube. That's important. That's the next step, YouTube. Oh, yes, because, well, another thing, a project... I want to start a podcast here. Yes, a podcast at the gallery, because we're opening a café and a juice bar soon, so I want to organize, you know, mate mornings, matcha mornings, where we sit in the café and, you know, like art gatherings where we invite different artists, people who can talk about current events in the art world, globally, the art market, and also their own practice. It's a really nice idea. We want to record it and release a podcast.
—Thank you so much. —Oh, thank you. Thank you so much.
—Congratulations! —Oh!
